Plasma Screens
A Plasma screen works in a similair way to an LCD screen except that instead of charging a crystal with electricity an electrical charge is applied to a gas in a small cylinder. This is usually xenon or neon causing the gas to glow which gives off a colour.
However, unlike LCD where each dot on the screen can produce a separate colour, Plasma screens have three tubes for each dot and depending on the colour variance in each tube, this will display a colour for each dot. On cheap Plasma screens if you look closely you may be able to see these individual tubes.
The main advantage of Plasma is the contrast and colour variance a plasma screen is able to display over its LCD rivals, especially when producing blacks. They will also give a richer more vibrant colour in rooms with lower lighting levels, however LCD is close behind.
Viewing angle is also a major advantage with Plasma which offers around a 160° angle of viewing as is speed of refresh, a noticeable trail effect maybe visible on some LCD TVs as oppose to Plasma screens.
